From Auschwitz to Ambleside (Tour 2008 – 2009)

This touring exhibition and encounters based on child survivors from the Holocaust who came to the Lake District in 1945 will be offering opportunities for interaction and engagement to schools and communities in rural Lakeland during 2008-9.

This project is funded by MLA (Their Past Your Future Phase II) and is being implemented by Cumbria Libraries in partnership with Another Space, and schools in two Extended Services clusters (Lakes & Dent-Kirkby Lonsdale-Sedbergh). The project will take place in school and library venues in the Lakes area and South Lakeland, from Sedbergh to Langdales.

From Auschwitz to Ambleside Tour 2008-2009 (DN)

A touring exhibition of photographs and multi-media installations, “Auschwitz to Ambleside”, with an accompanying interactive tour by Holocaust survivors, will visit Extended Services school clusters and communities in the Lakes area and South Lakeland.

This exhibition is based on three hundred child survivors of the Holocaust who stayed in hostels from August 1945 that previously housed workers at the Short Sunderland aircraft factory on the shores of Lake Windermere. School students and community members will have the opportunity to interact and engage with Holocaust survivors at school, library and other community venues.
